• How To Advertise a Start up a Lawn Care Business

    For a little over nine years, I have owned several successful lawn care companies. Twice I have been able to sell my businesses for a large profit, and three times I have had to start over from scratch. If there’s one thing I have learned about lawn care is that the better job you advertising, the easier it is to acquire new accounts, and make more money.  When the economy is good, advertising for new clients is easy, but when the economy is very tight, it is more of a struggle to attract and keep your clients. Below are six creative ways to help you start up and run your lawn care business.

    Use Cheap Advertising-  One of the cheapest ways to advertise is on your trucks and custom shirts on the backs of your employees. In a saturated market, this might make the difference between success and failure for your business.  You can do this by using a personalized cotton t-shirt that breathes easily and can be custom designed you have your company logo on it. If you can create a catchy local that it easy for customers remember, or a website URL,it will be easier for you to attract new clients. It is also a good idea to have business cards ready and with your employees at all times. This way,people can call you for a ‘free-estimate’  for any work they need done

    Pick Where You Want to Work -When I start my lawn care businesses, I always try to keep all my clients within a 10 mile radius. This way, I’m not paying, money for gas, or wasting time traveling between appointments. It is important to pick the right kinds of neighborhoods if you want to make a lot of money. Personally, my favorite neighborhoods, are the ones with really big houses, and really small lawns.  The first tip to running your business is to pick where you want to work. Make sure that you advertise in a small geographical area. One of the easiest ways to advertise is by putting up flyers around middle to upper and neighborhoods. Well you are working in a neighborhood, make sure you waived all of the neighbors, and if you have a chance to talk to them, it is even better.

    Talk to Everyone You Meet– You will be surprised how many neighbors don’t want to spend half of their day on Saturday cleaning up their lawn. You can help them, and provide them a good price, it can be a win-win for both you and them.

    Have an Online Website- The next step to running a successful startup lawn care business is to start in a online website. Most people do not go to the trouble to have a successful website, or get ranked first in Google maps. Once you know little bit about Internet marketing, it is actually fairly simple. Make sure each page on your site is optimized for keywords you want to rank for. Also trying get your summers to go online and write a good review for you.

    Create a Customer List – Start creating a list of all of the customers that you have done work for.  Make sure you get there telephone number and possible, their e-mail address.  Creating with customers is a great way to ‘dig up’ extra work when times get slow.  When I was running and aerating and thatching business, I could usually generate up to three or four weeks worth of work, just by e-mailing our existing customers from the previous year.

    Try to Upsell – Offer your customers a complete package. This way they don’t have to worry about is going to take care of their lawn and think it leads area or if it needs to be irritated. Rather than selling just a mowing package, including complete till that also takes care of fertilization, tree pruning, aerating and thatching. This way you can establish yourself as a legitimate service. You can also make more money per visit.
